Permanent Lightfast Acrylic Artist Paints
Selected for Vinyl Dolls
|
HIGHEST QUALITY PERMANENT COLORS ~
JoSonja paints contain the best quality pigments that are available, and they have been industry tested to qualify for the best standards. HIGHEST LIGHTFAST RATING ~ JoSonja paints have the highest "lightfast" rating possible. This does not mean they cannot fade under abusive conditions but it DOES mean that these acrylic paints have the highest potential for retaining their true color permanently, if the doll is cared for properly. NON-TOXIC ~ Because the Reborn art is a "hands-on" type of art (for both the artist and the consumer), it's important to know that the pigments you work with are non-toxic. Artists have been known to develop health problems and even nerve damage due to exposure to toxic pigments in their paint. YES, the JoSonja Paints are NON-TOXIC. COMPATIBLE ~ JoSonja acrylic paints can be used with other brands. They cannot be used with the Genesis heatset paints, however. (Genesis is not compatible with other brands because it's neither an acrylic nor an oil paint.)
COLOR SELECTION ~ We offer a comprehensive SET of 12 JoSonja Artists' Colours, which includes 12 tubes (20 mil or 2/3 US fl. oz.) This unique assortment provides a complete colour wheel of pure intense colours selected to support the decorative painter in all of us. Included colours are: Titanium White, Yellow Light, Yellow Orange, Napthol Red Light, Napthol Crimson, Amethyst, Dioxazine Purple, Blue Violet, Aqua, Pine Green, Yellow Green, Carbon Black.
The JoSonja technical advisor says she uses the Creative Possibilities Sampler almost exclusively. She sometimes adds burnt umber to the set (the Sampler doesn't have a brown color), but for most of her many art projects she has found the Sampler to be more than sufficient. We also offer additional shades of red, pink and brown, because we know the reborn artists will be using the acrylic paints for lip and eyebrow colors.
Transparent Magenta, Permanent Alizarine, Warm White, Rose Pink, Fawn, Burn Umber, Burgundy, Plum Pink... these colors come in 2.5 ounce tubes, available separately. Some Reborn artists in the UK use JoSonja Artists' Colours, and these are the colors they recommend.
TOP QUALITY ~ I have used some of the craft brand acrylics on my vinyl dolls but I haven't been impressed with them. They don't provide any information on how lightfast their colors are, for one thing. I wanted acrylic paints for our doll shop that would give the best possible results, so we are pleased to offer these high quality paints.
I would have added the Scuola acrylic paints to our doll shop already, except the tubes are very large: enough to paint huge canvases. And, Scuola tubes are therefore rather expensive. Our dolly "canvas" is relatively small. The JoSonja paints come in small tubes, which is more appropriate and affordable for dolly artists. With the Sampler package we get a beautiful assortment of lovely colors, for only $25. FASHION DOLL REPAINTS ~ Many customers have asked about paints for their fashion dolls. YES, JoSonja paints are very appropriate for the fashion doll repaints.
ALL PURPOSE SEALER ~ This is JoSonja's all purpose sealer and primer that is recommended for use with Acrylic Paints. We selected this product as a primer coat for vinyl dolls, to be used underneath nail polish, glass paints or acrylic paints. This is the ideal sealer designed to adhere to all surfaces for indoor and outdoor use. Its superior adhesiveness, smoothness and durability allow it to be used on virtually any hard, paintable surface. Dries to a clear finish. Adhesive, smooth and durable. Non-toxic. First clean the vinyl (such as the doll's lips or fingernails) thoroughly. You may want to scuff or sand the vinyl slightly for better adhesion. Then apply the all purpose primer and allow it to dry completely. Next, apply your paints or nail polish. The primer will help your paints stick better to vinyl because it protects them from the oil that is in vinyl.
Although this is called a "sealer", it is actually more like a "primer", because it should be used as an undercoat, NOT a topcoat. All Purpose Sealer has an adhesive type finish, so whatever paint you put on top of it will stick better. Because it is tacky when dry, this sealer would not make a good topcoat. We do recommend using this all-purpose sealer underneath our Plaid Glass Paints, as well as the JoSonja Acrylic paints, AND you can use it underneath nail polish. If you're using nail polish on your dolls, then apply the All Purpose Sealer first. Then apply the manicure polish, and finish up with one of our polyurethane varnish products as a topcoat. Nail polish can turn gummy over time, but if it's used with a sealer underneath, and a polyurethane topcoat, you shouldn't have that problem. VINTAGE DOLLS ~ I use the JoSonja paints on my own vintage dolls. It seems we always need to repaint lips. It's important to use the JoSonja SEALER first, before you apply the lipcolor. This will help prevent the color from leeching into the surrounding vinyl, causing the dreaded "Koolaid" mouth. JoSonja's sealer is a real FIND: we should have been using this all along.
MAGIC MIX MEDIUM ~ Magic Mix Medium is for transparent color layering, line work and detail painting. It is a light sealer similar to a clear glaze mediume, but it also contains extender for longer “open” or blending time. Magic Mix dries to a matte sheen. It lightly seals each layer to prevent lifting with application of additional layers. Magic Mix can be used for floated and side loaded color, color glazing and stipple blending. Excellent for thinning paint for line work and fine detail. You can add Magic Mix directly to the paint for base coating when a smooth, even coat is desired - even on nonporous surfaces such as metal.
When you look at these color wheels, you will learn that mixing beautiful, vibrant colors is more complex than merely adding white or black. Knowing how to mix fabulous colors is an important part of becoming proficient with artist paints. Even though we apply the paint to vinyl dolls, the Reborn Artist has just as much to learn about colors as any canvas artist. CLICK HERE to go to our TUTORIAL on Oil Paints for Reborns.
