Sewing Pattern for
This Mermaid Gown is a new style for our Baby Face dolls! It has a heart shaped bodice, and is backless, with a mermaid style slim skirt that fans out to a short train with that gorgeous double ruffle. The front of the skirt is split part way in front. The dress can tie around the neck, or it stays up without any ties or straps. It does velcro in back. This gown is designed for stretch fabrics. If you use non stretch fabrics you will need to make allowances. Our mermaid fabric is a heavy stretch knit. We used a knit velour for the white and gold dress, below:
I can also imagine this gown made with deep red crushed velvet knit and a white furry border and cape for Christmas. And I'm planning a deep rosy pink for Valentine's Day... there are so many possibilities for this simple gown, and it's so easy to make!
Minimal instructions are included. This is not a simplicity pattern and novice seamstresses might not be comfortable with using it but most ladies who sew will find it easy to work with. We cannot provide online support, but we do have additional photos and sewing instructions at this link:
Yes, all PrillyCharmin patterns are REAL sewing patterns, copied on large size paper, that you cut out and use with fabric. Instructions are included with the pattern, as well as MORE instructions online that include full color photos. HANDY TIP: it is easier to trace around a doll dress pattern, and then cut it out (rather than trying to cut around those teeny pattern pieces.) Your cut pieces are more likely to be accurate if you trace them. I use pencil, lightly. Or dressmaker's chalk. We saw an old 1950's video about a factory designer making gowns for the vintage Tiny Tears doll: she traced around the pattern pieces too! |
